Water's Edge
R.S. Glassman’s vibrant paintings of sand, surf, and sunshine celebrate the dynamics of light on color. His scenes from coastlines, beaches, and poolsides around the world capture the unique interplay of human figures in marine environments. His work spans more than 65 years and encompasses residencies in New York City, San Francisco, Madrid, New Haven, Toronto, and San Diego. His most recent collection, “Water’s Edge,” focuses primarily on subjects from Canada and Southern California.

Trained in the electrifying artistic environment of Greenwich Village, New York City, in the 1950s, when Abstract Expressionism was at its zenith, Glassman attended Cooper Union, where he studied with Nicholas Marsicano, Charles Cajori, and Stephano Cusumano. He went on to the San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied under Elmer Bischoff, Nathan Oliviera, and Frank Lobdell, before setting up residency in Madrid, Spain, on a Fulbright Scholarship.
Glassman has garnered many accolades during his long career, including many around Southern California. Recently, his painting “Beach Figure” was awarded Best in Show at the 46th Annual Exhibition by the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies.
